Des Moines, IA – On Wednesday, April 21, 2010, Program Chair Kevin Patterson and Embalming Clinical Supervisor Travis Carrico of the DMACC Mortuary Science program were privileged to host an embalming seminar on Reconstructive Surgery and Pleasant Expression given by Matt Smith of the Frigid Fluid Company. Mr. Smith presented to nearly 50 DMACC students and faculty many different techniques useful in restoring trauma/difficult cases and provided a fascinating slide show detailing his work on these cases. Also covered were techniques useful for creating a pleasant facial expression on the deceased. Feedback from the DMACC students was very positive with several students stating how inspired they were by Mr. Smith’s dedication to funeral service and his passion for embalming. Mr. Smith also utilized DMACC’s sample display of Frigid fluids to offer descriptions and uses of various products. More information on Frigid products can be found at www.frigidfluidco.com or by calling (866) 774-4746.

Clinical supervisor Travis Carrico commented that “Matt did an outstanding job not only from a technical standpoint but from a motivational standpoint by sharing with our students the concept of the ‘windows of opportunity’ they will have in these situations to create a lasting impact on grieving families.”

The Mortuary Science program at Des Moines Area Community College offers a traditional on-campus program and also a fully online program. Both programs utilize practical, activity-based learning in all courses and incorporate projects such as conducting mock funerals and arrangements, creating death certificates, register books and folders, and, most recently, taking a large group of traditional and online students (along with a hearse and casket) to several different churches in the Des Moines area to demonstrate the diversity of funeral techniques and customs. To learn more about the traditional or online programs at DMACC Mortuary Science, call Kevin Patterson or Travis Carrico at (515) 965-7171.

Matt,

We had great success with the Premium Jaundice/Color Guard solution! The case last week turned out great and we had another opportunity yesterday to use it on a milder jaundice case...with the same great results. Adding the Natural Tone at the end brought on some nice firmness but without overdoing it. The Rose Colortone created a very nice color as well. Thanks for the help...and the fluid!

Also, I just saw my article "The Value of The Viewing" here on the Frigid site. Thanks so much for posting that here.

Best of luck in New Orleans...
